E17 ART TRAIL

The E17 Art Trail is the biggest event in Walthamstow, and it goes on every year at the end of the summer. It's on it's sixth edition and getting bigger and bigger. During 9 days, from the 3rd to the 12th September the whole village becomes an exhibition of art: shops, churches, pubs, private houses, alleys, restaurants, museums, gardens... all can become a venue and hold local art for 9 days and all are welcome to Walthamstow to enjoy the show. A guide with a map is published so visitors can spot the different events and follow the trail!

This year there were 200 listings, 117 registered venues, and more than 1200 artists and contributors.
"This is how it works: local creative people (that's everyone!) decide that they want to be part of what has become North and East London's fastest growing community art event. Then they tell us about it, pay a subscription fee, and then we go off and pay a sumptuos guide, then the artists and contributors spend the rest of the summer busy away in their studios, sheds, offices, kitchens... To come up for the artwork ready for September."

Coinciding with the end of my artist residency at Inky Cuttlefish Studios, I had an exhibition of my work during the E17 Art Trail. Pictured are two collograph plates carved out of thick mounting card, from which Menstrualis and Spermatozoa resulted.
