I performed Abraham on the 29th July 2011, at the Symposium II, part of my MA at Camberwell. Then I filmed it and made this video with the help of Ramon Eding. I also want to thank Paul Wye and Alfonsina Capurro for their help in the night of the filming. The only light source for this performance was a red slide in a proyector.
She cuts herself in a ritual reminiscent of religious sacrifice, dissection and occult magic. The performer reveals that which is hidden, embodies a paradox: she is cutting and being cut simultaneously. Like Abraham she holds the power to sacrifice, to decide over the life of the son. Unlike him she does not follow the rule of the Father. This son is her own blood, and like a wound in her own flesh, she bleeds.
