Caesarean Eve

Caesarean Eve represents the biblical creation of woman, emphasising the links between God's act and childbirth. Notice the vagina-like orifice from which Eve is extracted by God in the role of midwife or doctor. Adam lies under an induced deep sleep (anaesthesia) and Eve is also opened up to reveal her generative capacities: her uterus with multiple chambers, like a baby machine. She was born to carry Adam's descendants, her dissection illustrating her role and nature as childbearer.
