Inspired by Morris

I will be exhibiting The Garden of Eden at Inspired by William Morris, "An exhibition of contemporary art and craft in dialogue with the life and work of William Morris.", from the 9th October to the 24th December, at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. I did this piece during my resideny at Inky Cuttlefish Studios, living and printing in Walthamstow, I got in touch with Morris' work and got to know the life of an artist, poet, socialist, craftsman and designer.
The Garden of Eden was done by screenprinting over paper and fabric, the backgrouns depicts and idyllic garden as it could have been imagined by Morris, the primitive home of man and woman. Eve offers the apple to Adam seductively, with the snake curled around her body, and her hair shaped imitating snakes. The imagery surrounding Eve emphasises her evil nature, and the complete nudity of the figures invites to reflect upon issues of gender in the mythic story.

The Garden of Eden, screenprint on collage of paper and fabric. Unique print. It will be for sale at the exhibition, and there is another similar version of the same subject. This second print is not for sale at the moment, as I am going to work on it further.
