This print was done for the Tatto competition for the Skin Exhibition at Wellcome Collection. I entered the competition inspired by the brief and the exhibition exploring skin and it's cultural and scientific meanings. They were looking for a tattoo that showed the anatomy beneath the skin and I did this design based on old anatomic illustrations. The title Blood and Tears, refers to the personal story of the person to be tattoed who lost their father because of heart disease.
The drops coming out from the heart are similar to the flowing sperm cells I have done in other works and the flower and the fly are symbols of the ephemeral and mortality.
Technique: Screenprint, three inks. Edition of 8.
